A Bureaucracy-Free Zone
Submitted by eric on 27 December, 2004 - 21:46Interversity is a site mostly for teachers of any kind (public school, college, home school, etc.). It's home to various conversations and communities, some of which have been going for many years. We're always glad to welcome new voices or new ideas for places to talk. Write to ecrump@interversity.org with any suggestions or to get help subscribing to our lists, etc.

New Rs: Readin' 'Ritin' and Rugers (and 'rithmatic to count the bodies)
Submitted by eric on 16 August, 2008 - 12:28Texas district will let teachers carry guns
Key quote:
When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that's when all of these shootings started. Why would you put it out there that a group of people can't defend themselves? That's like saying 'sic 'em' to a dog"
David Thweatt, superintendent of the Harrold Independent School District

Holocaust
Submitted by meehanm on 5 January, 2008 - 21:09Hi, I am new to this but thought you all could help me out. I teach a mutlimedia unit on the Holocaust in Language Arts grade 8. I am looking to make this more dynamic by inviting others to join our class. I use a room through nicnet.org ( free and terrific for those interesting in linking computers for writing). I wanted to try a reading circle group using Holocaust literature and students from other schools. Each book is pretty short 100-180 pages and are set up for lots of discussions. I have alist of titles and would share with any interested.

anti NCLB buttons available
Submitted by eric on 29 December, 2007 - 18:21Georgia Hedrick asked me to post this image for her. She says:
Here is a flyer on types of buttons to resist or say: BOYCOTT NCLB. I would guess that only the retired could wear them, and still have a job.
It only costs a person the price of the postage to get them. I listed what I learned the costs would be in the original info on the buttons.
Contact Georgia for more information.

Greyish brown Saturday
Black Friday is over, but the Official Holiday Shopping Season is just getting in full swing so I'm sure the day is a darkish color of some sort. Time for my annual reminder that the mostest painlessest way to help Interversity is to start here:
http://interversity.org/booklist
when headed to Amazon.com to buy books, movies, CDs, games, toys,. computers, sail boats or anyotherthing on your gift list. Maybe not sail boats.
It doesn't cost you any more, but Interversity gets a bit of commission for each item you buy, including third-party vendors.
Thanks for your help!
