What I don't understand is this. If doctors squawk up loudly when financial
considerations force them to make medical decisions that violate their sense
of what's good for the patient, why don't teachers reblel against imposed
conditions that violate their sense of what's good for students? Even the
teacher's unions seem to more concerned with preserving the institution than
in helping to develop a new ethic of responsible professionalism in the face
of pressure from alarmists.
