RIGHT ON CUE, NCLB PRODUCES MORE FAILURE
Louisville Courier-Journal Editorial

The great majority of states, including Kentucky, have failed to meet
another set of deadlines of the federal No Child Left Behind Act, and so
have evoked from Education Secretary Margaret Spellings yet more ominous
threats, including the punishment of slashing their federal funding....

Why FairTest continues to trumpet these ridiculous objections to NCLB that
fly in the face of all reason and common sense is beyond me.
States are not doing what NCLB requires them to do and what they agreed to
do to improve their schools and as a result Secretary Spellings is telling them
to shape up. How ominous! What American would want the federal government
to protect his or her educational rights? Oh, yeah, the NAACP, for example.
Thank goodness the NAACP had the guts to go into federal court to argue
that states should enforce the "letter and spirit" of NCLB instead of coming up
with lame excuses why they can't improve their schools.
