I don't envy you.  I don't know if you've been through this before, but
the reason I got involved and eventually ran for the school board was
the conversation about building one middle school out of two.It made all
kinds of sense but people were incredibly emotional about the issue.and
now the school has won several distinguished school awards and I think
if we tried to shut it down, we'd have the same outrage.so hang in
there.  If it makes sense, people will understand..eventually!

And nobody asked about our test scores then either - they were just
concerned about their middle school aged kids crossing town to get to
school...or that their kid wouldn't be able to graduate 8th grade from
the same school they had, etc..  :-)

I spent the evening reasoning with angry parents.  I serve on my
district's Citizens Facilities Committee, and we're changing boundaries
for a new junior high and also adjusting the elementary boundaries to
even out the growth (which is rampant).  You know what?  Not one parent
asked about WASL scores at the schools they were being changed to!  Hah!
