One of the sources of Kissinger's income are his seats on corporate boards.
The one I follow locally here in Chicago is his seat on the board of
Hollinger International (which published the Chicago Sun-Times, most of our
suburban newspapers in the Chicago area, the London Telegraph and the
Jerusalem Post). Kissinger's take from the Sun-Times/ Hollinger thing along
(if you count the stock he gets plus his director's fees) is about $75,000
per year -- for a very part-time job. I also have a hunch they pay him when
he plays pundit in their news pages (which he does).
$75,000 here, $100,000 there -- that kind of change can fill the purse
quickly. I'd like to see his personal and corporate (Kissinger contulting)
tax returns before I talked about his "wilderness" days. I have a hunch he's
doing a lot better moonlighting at part-time jobs like his Hollinger director
position (which requires no more than a half dozen meetings a year, all
expenses paid) than he was at the White House.
Although that may not be "official" support, it sure does pay the rent in
most parts of town.
