Those interested in a detailed rebuttal to Regent Moore's "test scores
equal merit" nonsense should read "Facts and Fantasies About UC Berkeley
Admissions" posted at

George,
I also find interesting a couple of things that are either missing from
the Moores' analysis or are hidden...one of the ideas he supports is
admission of more "high scoring" students from out of state to get as he
says "the very best students" but in reality it appears to be a way to
get more dollars into the university's coffers because it costs almost 4
times as much in fees for an out of state student as a state student.
The missing part is the graduation rate based on SAT scores, i.e., an
article in the Chronicle by a UC Berkeley administrator (can't remember
his name) that pointed out that the graduation rate is about the same
(statistically insignificant numbers) for students who score between 900
and 1000 on their SAT's and those who score between 1500 and 1600.
What I wonder is how ONE member of the board of regents can ask for a
report that seems to have taken a lot of time to put together - or am I
wrong...did the whole board vote for the study?
