Other union locals should conduct speakouts or forums. As Susan suggests, school boards could be involved (as has happened around state testing in some communites in MA) - co-sponsoring events with teachers (and other groups, such as religious and civil rights) or holding their own. The goals are to educate around the consequences of NCLB and build support for actions leading to overhauling federal law - a quite different ESEA in various critical regards, including testing and the accountability structure.

The truth is that parents, children, and the schools themselves would be better off if people quit wasting time with these posturings and got on with the business of making changes in the schools. The judge overseeing the CT case just granted NAACP the right to join the case in opposition to the position taken by the state and a teacher's union trying to weaken NCLB. The state assessment system and the state accountability system were two of the specific benefits established by NCLB that NAACP argued that the state should accept responsibility for in letter and spirit.
