Re: engagement - resources and outcomes at college level
Good for Kevin. Second chances and wide opportunities are important
and community colleges make them readily available, as Robert Samuelson
points out.

Subject: [arn-l] engagement - resources and outcomes at college level
In this article, Kevin Carey of Ed Sector argues that community
colleges should
get more resources relative to colleges that serve high achievers
(think,
Harvard). Deal or No Deal? How Higher Education Shortchanges Unprepared
Students. The point is that greater engagement on the part of students
makes a
major difference to less academically prepared students. Some folks
have been
arguing that for years relative to public schools. Sadly, Ed Sector
prefers
policy recommendations that have been shown to be very harmful to
engagement,
particularly high stakes testing.
The article is not long, but there are charts, so I provide just the
link.
