Re: Fw: YouTube clip of Edwards NCLB comments in Iowa

In other words, a politician who says things like, "We've got to stop treating teachers like potted plants" is not exactly making a bedrock contribution.

Perish the thought that a politician would be politicin' on the
campaign trail. We all know that Democratic candidates criticizing
NCLB in front of the NEA were oh so sincere and not politicin'
either.
Still, you might be on to something, because I have to admit that
when
Edwards said, "We've got to stop treating teachers like potted
plants,"
- "paranoid" was not the first word that came to mind. John
Madison, eat your heart out.

Art,

John Edwards doesn't strike me as a paranoid sort and HE says it's a
plot to

privatize. Doesn't sound like he's just politickin' to me.

Worth listening for two minutes to see how someone who made millions

persuading others (juries) frames our concerns -- hardly perfect, but
a

nice, folksy approach with tinges of radicalism.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PW9lhfylOgw

In addition, I would note he popularly and quickly hits many of the
themes

found in the Joint Statement on NCLB - multiple measures, growth
measures,

help not punishment, relying on and empowering teachers; and he notes
use of

NCLB to promote privatization. He also uses language we actually
often
use

(I certainly do).

And this is not a campaign plug, simply an observation.
