According to a Washington Post article published during the campaign
(which also included grades from college transcripts)
Bush Gore
SAT Verbal Score 566 625
SAT Math Score 640 730
Note that these scores were attained before SAT "recentering"
(renorming). According to my handy-dandy, College Board copyrighted
score converter, 566 SAT-V pre-recentering translates into between 630
and 640 on the current scale. A 625 SAT-V scales into 680-690. On Math,
recentering would not change either Bush's or Gore's scores.
Bottom line here: Gore's SAT scores look to be typical of Harvard
students of that era (the equivalent of a combined low 1400s today)
while Bush (with high 1200s on the current scale) was a beneficiary of
the most typical kind of "affirmative action" at Yale, so-called "legacy
preference."
