Hello All
Just got the videotaped broadcast of our Austin protest on Feb 1.
Our Carol Holst elucidated how high stakes testing is unethical & segments
from Mary O'Brien and Karen Hartke's views also were aired in the newscast.
The taped segments focused mainly on the pressures of high stakes tests &
the detrimental effects on kids and curriculum.
But then...here comes Jeannie Allen from the Center for Educational Reform
to tell us that "those test fighters aren't helping our children & they'd
better back off. And they WON'T win." She claims the "Business Rountable
Report" shows that the public clearly believes in standardized testing. At
the end of the clip, the reporter tells us that based on findings from
"Public Agenda" that 78% of Americans don't buy into high stakes testing.
Carol, I'll send this to you...
Help!!
I have been asked by several administrators for sources to verify that
HISD's dropout rate is actually closer to the 50% figure than the much lower
figure that TEA came out with earlier...I need info other than Haney's
report as they have discredited him in a brainwashing workshop
administrators had to attend earlier this month..please forward any info
about number crunching done in Houston while Paige was in charge.
My assistant principal on my rural campus read Testing Miss Malarkey today,&
called Bookstop to see if it was in stock....she'll drive 35 miles to buy
it. I give articles to teachers & administrators weekly.
TAAS tests are next week. No one has asked me this year to assist in
administering them. Hmmm...guess I'm exempted.
Becky
