Wonderful: please post your bibliography when completed; or drafted, the sooner
the better, I've been wanted to hand out a list of good source material. Here
are my contributions:

1) None of the Above: The Truth Behind the SATs by David Owen (with Marilyn
Doerr), 1999, Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. James Fallows reviews it as
follows: "America's story in the years since this book appeared is largely the
story of an upper tier of Americans whose opportunities and tribulations are
separating from those of the average citizen. The SATs remain an important part
of the support structure for that tier. David Owen's description of them is as
wickedly funny as it was in 1985, and even more important." Jonathan Yardly of
the Washington Post: "An angry book (though often a very funny one), and with
good reason: the SAT is a scam."

2 & 3) Modern Educational Measurement: Practical Guidelines for Educational
Leaders and Classroom Assessment: What Teachers Need to Know by W. James
Popham,
(professor emeritus at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information
Studies). Published by Allyn and Bacon. Dr. Popham also has a fantastic article
in the February, 2001, California Educator entitled "The score-boosting game:
everybody loses." This was one of the best denunciations of standardized
testing mania to date.

If you are including periodicals, get a copy of the recent California Educator
(CTA's periodical, that's Cal. Teachers Assoc.). Imbedded in a pathetic story
on "Measuring up under pressure" is a DAZZLING side bar story titled "High
stakes are for tomatoes, say resisters" featuring our own Susan Harmon....and
it is just WONDERFUL. I'll copy the text and submit under another subject!

Good luck on the bibliography! I want a copy!!
