Where you start is to tell parents willing to listen that there is another
side to the story they regularly read about and hear about, and give them
the arguments on both sides and let them make up their own mind. You will
overload a lot of people and turn them off if you get into lengthy or
technical discussions right off the bat. Use what you can from Marilyn's
writings (the unfairness of teacher ratings based on raw test scores) but
also let people know that assumptions that standardized tests measure
something meaningful and worthwhile may not be true, either.
