When we paint a picture of "America," let's paint the whole picture.

That's the whole problem with standards. Whose standards? It's not just the
test, but the standards behind the test, which sorts folks out and casts poor
and working class kids away. The "assessment" is the outward symbol of the
problem. We need to begin focusing on the inhumane "standards" behind the
assessment.

Thanks for the sad reminder, Steve. I don't mean to drag the pre-testing-season-organizing-overdue-but-finally-happening-Texas-rally euphoria down, but the students and teachers who have been hurt by this craziness are going to be with us for a long time. What are we going to do for those who were born "substandard" to "substandard" parents to lead "substandard" lives they believe (because they have been carefully taught) they deserve?
