Re: Switching schools

RE: . . . Switching schools . . .

Research has shown that the suburban basketball team improved when inner
city minority kids were bussed to suburbia.

It has been my experience, teaching in an inner city school for 16 years and
then in a suburban school for 14 years, that there is some difference in the
attitude of the kids due to surroundings and offerings, however, I don't
believe this is easily measured. I think there was some difference in my
attitude between my two teaching experiences. It is true, if the "belly"
has needs, the head (and heart) is not interested in what you have to sell.

The greater influence is the home and cultural membership.

The trouble with understanding all this is that we have to find someone who
is well experienced in many different types of school districts in order to
make a valid judgment. Perhaps, Rick Parkany will chime in with some
insight gleaned from his vast teaching experience all over the country.

Regardless of this issue, HST (ing) is still a bogus change regardless of
state or district within the state.

It cheats ALL students equally -rich/poor, honors/IEP(ers), African
American, Caucasian American, Asian American, Latino American, (even the
Italian American kids (joke) if what I have been told all my life is true-
Italian American kids can't do as well on paper and pencil tests because it
occupies their hands-aw all right, I am sorry for the pun and apologies to
all you who have a sensitivity to ethnic humor and a big apology to those of
the Italian persuasion.
