Scott Nine of IDEC asked me to circulate this, which I am happy to do as IDEC is a fine ally in the battle for educational sanity. Monty

In March, hundreds of people from around the world will gather for the International Democratic Education Conference. This year, it is being held for the first time in Puerto Rico. Organizer Justo Mendez says, "IDEC 2012 <http://www.idec2012.org/> is more than a conference, it is an opportunity to do what needs to be done with the little relevance of the (current) education in Puerto Rico". (more here) <http://idec2012.org/news/interviews/451-qto-assume-our-education-from-the-people-from-their-words-from-what-they-have-to-sayq.html> The conference features youth leadership at all levels and brings together international academics, educators, and organizers who see the connections between human rights, education, and sustainability.
