Thanks for circulating the Boston Globe article on revising NCLB.

There is only one word to describe what Kennedy and Miller are trying to do.

Bullshit.

Abolition, not amelioration, is what's needed.

As long as No Child Left Behind continues, teacher bashing and attacks on
public schools have the full force of federal law. Nothing in the article even
mentions the dishonest attack on public schools from the Bush administration's
pushing of charter schools (from the State of the Union message this year to
New Orleans). There is no recognition that the underlying problems are societal,
not school.

Miller and Kennedy are both pushing a corporate "school reform" agenda that
is, at bottom, an attack on democratic public schools. They are trying to
preserve a part of the "Bush Legacy" that will, long term, have as terrible an
impact domestically as the Iraq War is having internationally.

Abolish NCLB.

Return to Chapter One.

End the doubletalk.
