Yes, that is the reason - the 'special ed diploma' is worth nothing in terms 
of post-secondary ed or training, and you cannot get fed financial aid 
either. Watching her largely by herself negotiate various bureaucracies, 
media, city councils, etc. it is clear she is a smart, resourceful, 
energetic, persistent young woman. Certainly a not a person who should have 
been denied a diploma for missing a few questions on the math test.

BTW, she informed me yesterday that tho she has taken the math test several 
times, she has never been informed by the state what her weaknesses in math 
are. There's a helpful attitude, but hey, test security is more important. 
Not that openness and helpfulness would make single-hurdle tests OK, it 
would not - but it would be somewhat less nasty.

She didn't pass the math test and got a "special education diploma" and
that's the only reason she didn't get in to beauty school and "other
Memphis technical and community colleges and universities"?
