Several studies have been done by Stuart Katz on ability to answer reading
"comprehension" items on the SAT without having read the passages. With some
training, test-taker success was way above chance, though not at the 50
percent level you observed. The Katz research is summarized in various back
issues of the FairTest Examiner, on line www.fairtest.org.
