Dear Lynette--
There are a great many terrific people in CARE, and I did not mean to be
disrespectful of them. The reason my response to the student contrasted the
positions of New Democracy and CARE on the Education Reform Act is because
this is the form his question took and because I had the (apparently
mistaken) impression that our positions are diametrically opposed. I didn't
think that I was undermining FairTest and CARE in my response but simply
answering the question accurately.
I too want to build a united movement. But the key to achieving that end, I
think, is that we have full and open discussions of important questions such
as the nature of the Ed Reform Act--its provisions, its effects, who is
behind it and what ends it serves. Perhaps this interchange can help move us
toward that discussion.
