I'll tell you what bothers me: the kids have to put their social security
numbers on the tests... the SSNs are also their student ID numbers. I can
pull up grades, attendance, office referrals, suspensions, test scores,
EVERYTHING based on their SSNs.
I refused to give the school system my daughters SSN this year when I
registered her for kindergarten. I just don't want her entire school career
connected to a number that only an employer should have. I got the royal
run around and had to talk to numerous different people-- I was told her
future teachers might see her as an "illegal alien" because her student ID
wasn't her SSN, I was told that I'd HAVE to give it later... and on and on.
I'm VERY leery of school systems having this kind of information-- I know it
supposedly makes it "easier" on them to have a unique identifier, but
businesses will also have legitimate access to this number when kids go to
work... it's a frightening and Orwellian thought that some company somewhere
could track my daughter's kindergarten records.
