I'm not sure I agree that we shouldn;t all be talking the same language,
but i do agree that we shouldn;t be compaing kids to each other, but
rather to themselves. I do like the California Learning Record, though,
for a model of how we can talk to each other across grades and schools
about how & what children are doing, but I am more interested in their
cognitive skills than I am in their scores on standardized tests, so I guess
that's how I look at them and am always looking to see how they are
dealing with problem solving rather than reading or writing, and am
always more interested in how they organize their notebooks and
backpacks than I am in how many words they spell coarrectly on a test.
