Jerry ... I have no idea beyond that maybe more students means job security for professors. But we've already established that the engineers have a problem counting engineers, so maybe they have a problem counting students too.

Why do we need to increase enrollments in engineering schools?
About 30% of engineering graduates take jobs in other
fields--either can't find a job or the other fields pay better.

There might be shortages in some areas--probably not enough
engineers working on alternative fuels, for instance. The
Duke people will look into that next fall.
