Dave, Juanita, and others,
Even when high-stakes testing goes the way of Bad Andy and The Noid we
still have a very long way to go. Our district is looking at placing a
credit union, complete with student workers behind the counter, in our
high school. They're also implementing career academies next year.
Maybe this can be successful, but my instinct tells me 'tis not a good
thing...
You all should have seen the huge pecan and oak trees at a major
intersection in our little town. That pasture was so pretty, especially
during the spring wildflower display. Now it's a gigantic parking lot
for our new Super Wal-Mart.
I remember schools five years ago, and it seems that uniforms were for
private school and some inner-city school students. Now one sees them
more and more often, even before Columbine. Why?
Last Saturday my son was watching Pokemon. The advertisers were offering
a reading program in which the winning school would get a free private
screening of Pokemon III.
Sold, to the highest bidder! But we do what we can.
