I don't think I made myself clear. I was being extremely facetious with the
legislators. They wanted to use a test to keep less developed kids out. I
tried to make them understand that they needed to provide assistance to
those who were behind, not add to the advantage of those who were ahead.
I don't need to read the NAEYC position paper to know that it is absurd to
try to give a standardized test to 3 and 4 year olds.
In fact, my May, 1990 Kappan Research column, "Standardized Tests,
Unstandardized Kids" dealt with that issue.
