Sunday, February 29, 2004
National Education Association

The 2003 State Teachers of the Year will gather in Washington, D.C. on Monday, March 1 to attend a U.S. Department of Education forum on the so-called "No Child Left Behind" legislation.

Members of the 2003 class will be available to reporters who would like to interview them about "No Child Left Behind" on Monday afternoon. These award-winning classroom teachers have traveled their states talking to educators and have experienced this legislation first-hand in their own classrooms. They will share their concerns about the obstacles that the one-size-fits-all provisions of "No Child Left Behind" are creating in their states and will describe how lack of funding is affecting efforts at the local level to improve student achievement.

The National Education Association is the nation's largest professional employee organization, representing 2.7 million elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators and students preparing to become teachers.
