Patrick Shannon
A former preschool and primary grade school teacher, Patrick Shannon is a
professor of education at Penn State University. He studies the social and
political consequences of education policy with a particular interest in the impact
on literacy and its uses. Recently elected as the (youngest!) member of the
International Reading Association Reading Hall of Fame, he is working with other
members to repeal many aspects of No Child Left Behind. His books include:

Norman Conard





Social studies teacher at Uniontown High School, Uniontown Kansas, Norm
Conard's diversity project assignment led to his students' research on Irena
Sendler, a little known Polish Catholic woman who saved more than 2500 Jewish babies
and children from the Warsaw Ghetto during WWII. Their play, "Life in a Jar"
based on her story, has been presented nationally and internationally, leading
to two visits by the students to meet Irena Sendler in Poland, her subsequent
world recognition for heroism, and a foundation to help support her nursing
home care.
