Re: Miami Herald publishes Victor's letter
It's interesting how they edited the first paragraph. I guess, they did not
like the Casablanca line. Maybe I should have quoted Citizen Cane or Doctor
Strangelove. Naah!.. too Lefty!..

Miami Herald Letters to the Editor
VICTOR STEINBOK,
Re the Feb. 29 story School provides FCAT loophole: The test's loophole
is there by design -- what shocks FCAT proponents is that the people
taking advantage of it are not from the suburbs or wealthy. The FCAT
requirement only applies to public-school students and ignores their
academic records.
Private-school students, irrespective of whether they are on a path to
Harvard or barely scrape together enough credits to graduate, are
exempt. It is disingenuous for state officials such as Education
Secretary Jim Horne to whine about loopholes. They created them. Would
they question the diploma's legitimacy had the students who availed
themselves of an opportunity to graduate come from a different ZIP code?
What's next? Complaints that too many poor students are asking for
vouchers?
