I think that three reasons that current opposition to "over-obsession and
misuse" of tests is ineffective are first, the loony paranoia and
outlandishness of an opposition that equates testing with the Holocaust and plots to
privatize education, second, that both parties more or less agree on the
importance of testing, and third, that testing now is part of comprehensive proposals
for reform. States are not meeting their responsibilities for the latter,
although ARN wants to put the whole blame on NCLB, George Bush, the Business
Roundtable, you name it.
I don't know enough about the California exit-test to comment on it, so my
advice to Californians who don't like the exit test is to come up with a
better proposal.
