I have not used such devices in an educational setting, but I have participated in a number of focus groups run by Frnak Luntz, and he uses dials where the participants indicate responses byh turning a dial. I found them annoying.

I have also noticed the few times when I have wathed Who Wants to be a Millionaire that they use the multiple choice indicators. I would think they would also be annoying in an educational setting.
