Tom French, reporter at St Petersburg Times, spent a year in 1993 doing
ethnography of Largo High School, and the qualitative data he shared would
be
a strong argument for homeschooling. The socialization schools are
unwittingly condoning dumb down the students, and reinforce the oppressions
that encourage conformity and discourage the learning process.
Cyberschools are definitely here. Teachers who want to teach are starting
schools and classrooms left and right on the Net. In a long run,
totalitarian regimes will have to try to find a way to control the learning
that takes place across national boundaries, languages and cultures.
Charters and vouchers are already yesterday's news that politicians are
mouthing without much substance.
