Peter,

On target as usual. Dems are still clueless about real damage being
inflicted by NCLB and look for them to push national standards, growth models and
full funding. After attending PDK meeting in DC and meeting with a Menendez
staffer , it's quite obvious there is still a huge disconnect between policy
makers and educators.

Also, with Rummy gone and Iraq officially declared a fiasco, Bush is digging
his heels in on NCLB -- holding it up as a great example of bi-partisan
legislation and cooperation.

The good news is, now that a modicum of sanity has been restored, there is a
window of opportunity for the organizations and individuals opposed to NCLB
to be heard.

Given the existence of an idealized vision of the community, movements of
protest are likely to occur within the political nation when the discrepancy
between the image and the reality comes to seem intolerably wide.
