Re: new article on assessment for learning

I used Stiggins' book, Student Involved Assessment, in my recent university course on assessment and evaluation and would highly recommend it. He does a thorough job of addressing learning across domains (content knowledge, reasoning, performance, etc.) and the types of assessment that match them. He also brings teachers' focus back on the student - to give them the tools they need to take ownership for their learning. He also does a nice job of talking about grading and the issues surrounding them...sort of reminded me of Thomas Guskey's work, who I also admire.

Phi Delta Kappan's most recent bi-montly publication, EDge, features an article by Rick Stiggins on assessment for learning.

If you're not familiar with Stiggins' work, check it out. I attended one of his workshops in April - very exciting and inspiring stuff.
