While I'm certain that Mr Gates will never share FairTest's unique vision of American education, he is in fact saying things that need to be said: Kids are important, standards are important, the system often works against the best interests of parents and kids, and states need to get going with the work of improving schools. Kids themselves say some of the same things as Mr. Gates - particularly that they are not challenged enough in school. And mostly he's right on the money about education in Washington state.

A real piece recommendging unproven nostrums and full of political hackdom from Gates. He mentions California which has about the lowest percentage of kids required to pass tests for a school to 'pass' nclb of any state in the country.
