Re: David Wasserman

NCLB is "fascist?" This must be an example of serious conversation about assessment that Monty tells me that ARN is about.

I think just about everybody would like to see significant changes to NCLB. But only in the delusional world of ARN are NCLB's accountability provisions a "fascist" tool to privatize public education. La Raza, the Mexican-American Legal Defense Fund, and leading progressive and legal advocacy organizations support NCLB, in its widest outline if not in every detail. Kind of hard to paint them and George Miller and Ted Kennedy as "fascists." Except, of course, in the wild, wild world of ARN

Please add my clapping hands to the applause for the actions of Mr. Wasserman.
In addition, add my hiss and boo to the hisses and boos response directed at a
a very silly reductionist who posted this: " Did he offer to reimburse the
taxpayers for the time that he was being paid for but not doing the work he was
assigned? His conscience didn't do that far, did it?" The taxpayer money wasted
yearly on the fascist NCLB which continues its role in the centralization of
political power in this crime riddled mendacious current administration ought to
be this off-the-cuff commentator's concern, not the heartless pretense of
concern for kids not served by the public schools and repettitive obsession with
the equally heartless Orwellian tagged NCLB. For sure, public schooling in
America is a wasteland for too many kids as described by Jonathan Kozol in Shame
of the Nation, but NCLB and the thought it represents perpetuates this wasteland
as Kozol also points out. The NAACP itself ha
s come out for massive overhaul of this shameful law, howevermuch bi-partisan
was its original coming-in-to-being not unlike the shameful bi-partisan support
for the misnomered Patriot Act unread by most of those who signed on to it. Mr.
Wasserman took a bold step which I wish more of us would imitate but, like him,
have to fall back in line or lose money essential for one's survival.
