Peter, I agree wholeheartedly.

Bridget, have you ever considered homeschooling? We homeschool (actually,
unschool) our eight-year-old son, and we love it.

Maybe you have considered it, and there's some reason you don't think it
would be a good idea, or maybe it seems impossible (financially,
sanity-wise, whatever). But others have gone before you, and figured out
solutions to all sorts of challenges.

Homeschooling doesn't have to fit the stereotype (whatever your stereotype
of homeschooling might be). Unschooling, for example (it's a form of
homeschooling) doesn't match the public perception of mom at a table for six
hours every day with the kids, working through textbook problems (I wouldn't
do this if I had to do THAT).

If you'd like to talk more about this option, please contact me (off-list or
on-). Maybe if you're afraid for your children, there's a way to meet that
fear - and thrive.
