 You seem to see everything about the schools though a kind of Important Event / Important People lens.? An important event comes along - Sputnik, Nation at Risk -? important people get riled up and deprecate the schools - and that's all there is to it and everything happening today is just more of the same.? Even if people have
criticized the schools unfairly over lots of things and continue to do
so, that doesn't mean that in the past there were not real failures in the schools and there are not real failures in the schools now. There's an out-of-focus quality to an argument that says the schools are unfairly deprecated because the Russians blasted up a satellite first and, by the way, it took the 101st Airborne to wedge nine Black kids into school in Little Rock.
