The business model has taken over in places other than education.
In Minnesota, I've heard state employees refer to patients at state
hospitals as "customers" or "clients." Patients are there involuntarily.
What a farce.

Yes.

And as part of their propaganda, the Business Roundtable and others foisted
the "CEO Model" on many urban public schools (beginning with Chicago).

And three years ago, Forbes did a piece praising Chicago's CEO Paul Vallas.
It was entitled "Chainsaw Paul" -- a tribute to "Chainsaw Al" Dunlap, who
led
Sunbeam into ruin (and bankruptcy) under the banner of "increased
shareholder
value..."

Now that there are a great many disreputable CEO types getting in the news
for misdeeds like Al Dunlap's, perhaps more and more intelligent people
will
stop hyperventilating every time someone suggests that "CEO" equals
anything
but greedy robber baron type.

Before the bubble of the '90s, most Americans knew this. With the
increasing
number of bankruptcies now flowing out of the old NYSE and NASDAQ
corporations, maybe we should update once a month with an new roll of
dishonor.

Sunbeam
USG

etc.
etc.
etc.

But their executives are not usually the ones who suffer the most. It's the
shareholders (some little; some "institutional") who were duped who are
left
holding valueless stock certificates -when the Al Dunlaps leave the ruins
of
their cheap PR stunts behind.

Ditto our public schools when we've finally sorted through, audited and
exposed each of the "bottom line" lies the Testocracy foisted on us the
past
ten years or so.
