Dave,
I find your response completely predictable, but not to the point. I
am not the one who confuses the US government and the American
people, but the authors and distributors of the petitions such as the
one that was posted. While it is quite possible that some actions of
the US Government have brought about a retaliatory effect, which
eventually resulted in this disaster, the US Government does not
suffer for it, nor are the citizens and even businesses that are
sufferring from it a part of the US Government. So to argue that
ANYONE has brought this action on ITSELF is inappropriate. One can
argue that the US foreign policies have won it more enemies than
friends and these enemies are connected to the people who perpetrated
the crime, but this is not the same thing. I'll post my take on this
issue later, but there is simply not enough time, at the moment.

did anything to deserve being in the line of fire.
Victor--
You're confusing things here that ought not to be confused. The US
government and the American people are not the same. To argue--as
Doug Selwyn has done and as I would--that the brutal policies and
actions of the US government in the Middle East and elswhere created
the conditions in which desperate people do desparate, even savage,
things such as last week's bombings, is not to argue that the
thousands who died or lost loved ones in the events are anything but
innocent victims. But they are victims not only of the hijackers'
flying bombs but also of the US government and the powers which it
represents.
