can't you get some parents to come in and help with your room? Or some
community organization? Or the students?

I do-- I sponsor the Beta Club at my school and one of their requirements is
5 hours community service at school (I added that to help myself and other
teachers out)... but that just doesn't solve all the problems.

As for parents, I don't mean any disrespect, but at the last PTA meeting
teachers (we were required to attend-- got no comp time, either) outnumbered
parents 3 to 1 (45 teachers, 15 parents-- in a school of 500+). We have
parent conferences this week (again, I'm required to be there from 1:00 pm
(the kids getout early) until 8:30 pm (no scheduled breaks at all)... and
last year a grand total of 17 parents showed up for that.

There's something about middle school that seems to scare parents away.
