Single Payer Health Care in California

The legislature of California has passed and forwarded a bill to the governor that would establish a single payer health care system.
"Senators voted 24-12 to approve Senate Bill 840, which would allow the state to run a single-payer health care system that would cover all Californians, doing away with the role of private insurance companies. Private medical groups and hospitals would continue to provide care as usual, but they would be paid through the state system." -Sacramento Bee on Sept. 1, 2006

Perhaps the time will come when the government will give people vouchers that they can use for the health care of their choice.
