Re: another Chicago hero
September 7, 2006
Joe,
With all due respect, I'll change my suggestion just a little bit.
I'll let anyone who speaks ill of Marty McGreal become a day--to-day
substitute for six months at any of six schools in the general vicinity
of Gae Park High School, Gage Park being one of them. The deal is, the
pontificator has to (a) actually work every available school day as a
substitute in those schools (preferably Gage or one of the overcrowded
high schools); (b) live in the community; (c) live on the pay and
benefits of substitute teaching in Chicago; and (d) write a daily
journal of his (or her) experiences.
That will be a suitable substitute for my earlier suggestions.
Marty made a courageous stand on behalf of what's best for the
students, teachers, and community. Those who repeat Bushist talking
points deserve a fate commensurate with their crimes. Since I'm not
dealing with the Iraq part of those, but only with "No Child" and its
cheerleaders, instead of body armor in 120 degree heat, I'm simply
suggesting a bit of real life experience in the real world of the
victims of those pontifications and posturings. Walking the walk has to
precede talking all that talk. Especially, when you're prattling about
someone's career and family.

George:
Whoa.
Hold the emotions in check.
Violence against a fellow educator is not cool.
Violence toward a fellow human is not moral.
Just remember he is not always right but makes a lot of good thinking
points.
Love thine enemys.
God Bless him, too.

Wow. Schmidt threatens mob violence against someone who holds
opinions different from his. Big brave editor, advocate for children,
and champion of the First Amendment. Can it get any more ridiculous
and pathetic?

He's lucky he's not in Chicago this week. We'd take him out to Gage
Park and,
with the help of the parents whose children are being stuffed into the
school and
the teachers who were picketing there last week, kick his dumb ass.
Count on that.
