Why? Oh, Why is Public Education the ONLY institution for which the
Corporate Citizen and its apologists offer vouchers & choice.
IF the Schenectady Police Department fails the citizenry as they have
over the past century, most recently instructed by Federal Courst to
patrol along side State Police Officers until they came up to specs (a
la *The StarLight Tour* -- taking miscreants out to the BoonDocks and
leaving them w/o shoes in the country-side) OR if the street department
fails me here in Utica, NY...
...Do I get to choose another police Department? or Street Department to
pick up the services not rendered?
Be honest, Folks: vouchers are a politcal hypocrisy to the core...
No? ;-} rap.

Hmm, I wonder if Dr. Hochstettler has any concerns about the
control of that "national education policy" in higher education,
something that thus far has a successful history of decentralized
autonomy and diversity that has made American higher education the
envy of the world.

Leaving aside the burning question of what concerns Dr. Hochstettler
may have, the success of American higher education is precisely
a reason that some people advocate vouchers -decentralizing down to
the level of letting parents and kids choose their schools would free
public education from forces that promote their own interests at the
expense of the interests of parents and kids.
