Re: diversity requirement

Diversity of "region" is another way to approach this. We have a strong
Appalachian studies dept. that argued that some of our Appalachian
literature courses should fit under the diversity requirement since its
aim was to expose students to a culture different than a dominant one.

Subject: [asle] diversity requirement

ASLE gentlepeople,

My department is considering requiring a "diversity" requirement overlay
focusing on "race, gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, and/or
disability."

Does anyone have any experience with such overlays that include
diversity of life, non-anthropocentrism, etc.? Diversity of life isn't
what the framers of the requirement have in mind, but I'm curious as to
whether it could be a useful addition. I'd much appreciate any insight
here. You can reply to me off-list if you like.

Thanks for your help.
