Minnesota state senators to make bid to opt out of NCLB

Some Republican lawmakers in Minnesota will introduce a proposal to end the
state's participation in NCLB -- a move under which the state may forfeit
$250 million annually in federal education funding -- saying the money saved
by not participating could reduce the financial impact. "We've had five years
of the No Child Left Behind regime, and I think it's safe to call it a
failure now," said Sen. Geoff Michel, who is leading the charge among the
state's Senate Republicans. "We're giving it an F and trying to take back our
schools." Star Tribune (Minneapolis-St. Paul) (1/1)
