We invite you to join us for the 2008 César Chávez Education Conference. Grounded in the core values of this great leader, the goal of the conference is to engage a community of concerned parents, teachers, students and citizens in critical discussion and reflection to promote educational reform efforts that work towards equity, democracy, academic excellence, and social justice. This conference will bring together parents, students, current and prospective teachers, community leaders, state/district/school-level administrators, policy makers, and national and international researchers who wish to promote high quality teaching and learning for all students. In the past few years we have had such distinguished speakers as Dr. Gerald Bracey, Susan Ohanian, and Dr. Elaine Garan. We emplore all interested parties to read the information below and to join this important action-inspiring conference!

Keynote speakers will be:
Marcelo Suarez-Orozco, Ph.D., Co-Director of the Institute for Globalization and Education in Metropolitan Settings, the Courtney Sale Ross University Professor of Globalization and Education at New York University, and author of ?Immigrants and Education? in The New Americans and Globalization: Culture and Education in the Millennium.

Gary Orfield, Ph.D., Co-Director of The Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles, Professor of Education, Law, Political Science, and Urban Planning at the University of California-Los Angeles, and author of Lessons In Integration: Realizing the Promise of Racial Diversity in America's Public Schools and NCLB Meets School Realities: Lessons from the Field


We invite you to submit a proposal related to our theme of Educational Equity as a Civil Right. Multiple presentation formats are eligible for submission: (e.g. research presentation, workshop, simulation/role play, group discussion, lecture, artistic performance, etc.) The following strands might be addressed; however, proposals are NOT limited to these areas:

Community- partnerships that address educational equity/social justice
Culture- culturally inclusive schools and practices
Immigrant Students- practices & partnerships promoting educational equity/social justice
Family Empowerment- practices promoting parents? rights and roles in transforming education
Critical Literacy- innovative practices that resist and transform inequitable policies and contexts
Student Empowerment- practices that promote student voice in transforming educational contexts

Directions for Submission:
Only emailed proposals will be accepted. Proposals including all required information must be received by February 1, 2008 in order to be considered. Faxed submissions will not be accepted. Please use the proposal form below. You will be able to type in designed text or check box fields, and all fields will expand to accommodate your text. You can also paste text from another document into a text field.

Selection of Proposals:
Notification of action will be emailed only to the lead presenter by February 22, 2008.
Proposals will be reviewed by at least three readers using the following criteria:
? Contribution to the conference theme
? Significance of content
? Objectives and/or purposes
? Audience
? Format
? Process of presentation
? Participant outcomes

Equipment Needed:
Every presenter will be provided with an LCD projector and screen at no charge and if requested. Any other equipment, such as flip chart, VCR/DVD, or laptop, SMART Board may be provided upon request.
