That Oakland Teaching Fellows is suspect, I agree. They didn't want me because I was already credentialed in another area, even though I was starting from scratch with Special Ed. Yes, and this past year I worked at one of these "restructured" Oakland flatland schools where they tried like the dickens to get the Newbie staff to waive their Union contract rights (were unsuccessful) and tried to get the staff to vote for Charter (they also lost this one thanks to the Newbie staff getting pretty savvy pretty quickly!) But they've driven out most of the savvy ones for the next year, just like they drove out the experienced ones the year before. And on it goes...

It would seem like they are violating NCLB to hire uncredentialed interns if
there is a qualified teacher available.

PS I forgot to say that what you lay out has already happened in
Oakland. Ward started two "internal" charters (there is no such thing
in law) in Flatlands schools, and more will come. They hired only (I
heard) newbies, and made them pledge not to join the union. So he gets
credit for reducing the budget (lower salaries), and they dont know
enough and/or are too scared to rebel.
I applied to Oakland to teach special ed and was turned down because
they are only hiring interns who arent credentialed. Im thinking about
suing. Age discrimination? Can they do that? Make a contract with their
"Oakland Fellows" program (Broad-sponsored, maybe?) and only hire them?
