Listmates-
News of return of Oakland to the people of Oakland is tremendous news...
Now on returning graduation rights back to students who earned it from the
teachers who taught them and the parents who raised them...
I will be at State Bd of Ed meeting in a.m. to oppose exit exam at every
opportunity and at Assembly Education in afternoon to testify for Senator
Romero's bill SB 123.
Could use support on SB 123---for alternative to CAHSEE for sp ed students
[juried assessment] beginning with Class of 2008, after current SB 267 to
exempt seniors "sunsets" on Dec. 31 2007---exempting IEP and 504 plan
seniors from CAHSEE requirement if they meet or exceed all other traditional
graduation requirements [incl 13 year-long courses and 220-270 grad
credits].
Without SB 123 over half of all seniors with disabilities will not graduate
from a California public high school if 2006 and 2007 results [over 43,000
seniors with disabilities each year with over 30,000 still trying to pass
senior year and only 20,000 passing]. This is absurd---only 7% of all sp ed
students in CA typically qualify for the CAPA for severely impaired
[non-diploma track].
Room 126 at 1:30 p.m. In State Capitol Wed. July 11 for SB 123 for anyone
who can make it.
Or, a quick fax in strong support of SB 123 to Assembly Ed members:
