The current State Board of Education was appointed by Governor 
Schwarzenegger, but the State Board has a long history of doing 
whatever is recommended by Ed Trust, Ed Voice, and California 
Business for Education Excellence. Despite his opposition to the 
algebra mandate, Jack O'Connell is a big part of that history. He is 
also the only one who is elected to his position, and the one who has 
made no secret of his political ambitions.
