Dear Ms. Harman:

Thank you for writing to express your concerns about the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE).

On January 6, 2006, I sent a letter to the State Board of Education (SBE) to explain my reasons for requiring all students to pass the CAHSEE to receive a public high school diploma. You can find this letter on the California Department of Education (CDE)

Web site at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/hs/documents/cahseeoptionsltr.doc.

I hope the information contained in the letter assists you in assessing the value of the CAHSEE to all of California’s high school students.

If you have any questions regarding this subject, please contact the CAHSEE Office, at (916) 445-9449 or by e-mail at CAHSEE@cde.ca.gov.

Sincerely,

JACK O’CONNELL

State Superintendent of Public Instruction

our children? Where are your priorities?
